Individual Therapy in Costa Mesa

One voice, fully heard.

Individual therapy is the foundation of most treatment plans at Stillwater Behavioral Health — a dedicated one-on-one space to work through what you're experiencing at your own pace, with a therapist who gets to know your full history rather than just your current crisis.

What Is Individual Therapy?

Regular sessions between you and a licensed therapist. Unlike group formats, the pace, focus, and approach are shaped entirely around your specific needs — nothing generic, nothing rushed.

Who Individual Therapy Is For

Appropriate across nearly every condition we treat, including depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma, OCD, ADHD, grief, and BPD. It's also commonly combined with group or family therapy as part of a broader treatment plan.

What to Expect

There's no script here — sessions follow you, not a fixed agenda. Expect a mix of talk therapy and structured, modality-specific techniques, whether that's CBT untangling a thought pattern, DBT building emotional skills, or EMDR processing a memory that won't settle. What stays constant is the same therapist, session over session, learning the fuller shape of what you're carrying.

What a First Session Looks Like

Your first session is mostly conversation — what's brought you in, what you've tried before, what you're hoping changes. There's no pressure to have it all figured out or perfectly explained. From there, your therapist works with you to shape a plan that fits.

Where Individual Therapy Takes Place

Sessions happen at our Costa Mesa facility, with clients coming in from across Orange County — Newport Beach, Irvine, Huntington Beach, and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is individual therapy different from group therapy?

Individual therapy is one-on-one and fully personalized, while group therapy involves peer interaction and shared learning under a therapist's guidance.

Will I work with the same therapist throughout my treatment?

In most cases, yes — continuity with one therapist who knows your history is part of what makes individual therapy effective.
