Group Therapy in Orange County

Finding steadier water alongside others.

Group therapy brings clients together in a guided, supportive setting to share experiences, build skills, and realize they're not navigating this alone. At Stillwater Behavioral Health, group therapy is a core part of our PHP and IOP programming for Orange County clients.

What Is Group Therapy?

A small group of clients meeting together with a licensed therapist to work through shared challenges, learn coping skills, and support one another's progress — the structure of clinical treatment combined with the connection of peer support.

Who Group Therapy Is For

Incorporated across many of our treatment plans, particularly for clients in PHP or IOP, and beneficial for depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and other conditions where peer connection supports healing.

What to Expect in Group Therapy

There's something in sitting across from someone who's navigating the same current you are — recognition that a solo session can't quite offer. Groups are typically structured around specific themes or skills — coping strategies, emotional regulation, or processing shared experiences — facilitated by a licensed therapist to keep sessions productive and safe.

What a First Session Looks Like

You won't be asked to share your full story on day one. Most clients start by listening, getting a feel for the group and how it works, before contributing at their own pace.

Where Group Therapy Takes Place

Group therapy is offered at our Costa Mesa facility as part of PHP and IOP programming, serving clients throughout Orange County.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is group therapy confidential?

Yes — all group participants agree to confidentiality guidelines, and sessions are facilitated by a licensed therapist to maintain a safe, respectful environment.

Do I have to share personally in group therapy?

Participation is encouraged but paced to your comfort level — you're never forced to share more than you're ready to.

How large are the groups?

Groups are kept small and clinically appropriate in size, so sessions stay personal rather than feeling like a lecture.
